Enter the item you're comparing and add a row for each supplier's quote — pack size, unit and pack price. The tool converts every quote to a cost per base unit so you can compare suppliers fairly, even when their pack sizes differ.
| Supplier | Pack Size | Unit | Pack Price | Cost per Unit |
|---|
A supplier quoting £18 for a 5kg box looks cheaper than one quoting £32 for a 10kg box — until you calculate cost per kg, where the first is £3.60/kg and the second is £3.20/kg. Always compare on a like-for-like base unit, never on headline pack price.
This tool compares product cost only. Factor in delivery charges, minimum order values and any early settlement discounts separately — a cheaper unit cost can be wiped out by a delivery surcharge on small orders.
Cheapest is not always best value. Confirm that suppliers are quoting on the same specification — grade, trim, freshness, packaging and country of origin can all vary significantly at a similar price point.
Sometimes the lowest unit cost supplier is not the best overall choice if it means managing an additional delivery, invoice and relationship for one item. Weigh unit cost savings against the operational cost of added supplier complexity.
Commodity and ingredient prices move frequently. Revisit key lines (protein, dairy, produce) at least quarterly, and immediately after any market volatility you're aware of.
This calculator provides estimates based on the figures you enter. Always confirm delivery charges and minimum order terms with each supplier before switching. JWBIZ Ltd accepts no liability for purchasing decisions made on the basis of this tool.
