Ingredients

  • 4 pork bratwurst
  • 1 tbsp sunflower oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp tomato purée
  • 200ml tomato ketchup
  • 100ml water
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp white wine vinegar
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tsp mild curry powder, plus extra to serve
  • 1 tsp sweet paprika
  • Black pepper to taste
  • Crusty rolls or chips, to serve

Method

  1. Heat the oil in a saucepan over a medium heat and cook the onion for 5 minutes until soft. Stir in the tomato purée for 1 minute.

  2. Add the ketchup, water, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, sugar, curry powder, paprika and pepper. Simmer for 15 minutes, stirring, until thick and glossy. Blend until smooth if you prefer.

  3. Cook the bratwurst in a frying pan over a medium heat for 12 to 15 minutes, turning, until browned and cooked through.

  4. Slice the sausages into chunky rounds, pour over the hot sauce and dust with extra curry powder. Serve with rolls or chips.
