Ham and Cheese Toastie

Golden, crisp-edged toasted sandwiches filled with sharp Cheddar, ham and a little mustard.

Ingredients

  • 8 slices white bread
  • 50g butter, softened
  • 200g mature Cheddar, grated
  • 8 slices cooked ham
  • 2 tsp English mustard
  • 2 tbsp chutney, to serve

Method

  1. Butter one side of each slice of bread and spread the other sides with mustard.

  2. Lay four slices butter side down on a board and top with the ham and Cheddar.

  3. Cover with the remaining slices, butter side up.

  4. Heat a large frying pan over a medium heat and cook the sandwiches for 3 to 4 minutes on each side, pressing down, until golden and the cheese has melted.

  5. Cut in half and serve hot with chutney.
