Ingredients

  • 4 eggs
  • 200g mature Cheddar, cut into wedges
  • 8 slices honey-roast ham
  • 1 crusty white loaf
  • 100g butter
  • 4 tbsp Branston pickle
  • 4 pickled onions
  • 8 pickled gherkins
  • 2 crisp apples, sliced
  • 2 celery sticks, cut into batons
  • 4 tomatoes, quartered
  • Salad leaves, to serve

Method

  1. Boil the eggs for 8 minutes, cool in cold water, then peel and halve.

  2. Cut the bread into thick slices or break it into chunks and put out the butter.

  3. Arrange the Cheddar, ham and eggs on four large plates or boards.

  4. Add a spoonful of Branston pickle, the pickled onions and gherkins to each.

  5. Fill the gaps with apple, celery, tomatoes and salad leaves and serve with the bread and butter.
