Ingredients

  • 600g beef mince, 20% fat
  • 1 small onion, finely grated
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 4 rashers streaky bacon
  • 4 slices Cheddar
  • 4 brioche burger buns, split
  • 4 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 4 lettuce leaves
  • 1 beef tomato, sliced
  • Tomato ketchup, to serve

Method

  1. Mix the mince, onion, Worcestershire sauce and seasoning gently, then shape into four patties about 2cm thick. Press a dimple into the centre of each.

  2. Grill or fry the bacon until crisp and keep warm.

  3. Heat the oil in a heavy frying pan over a high heat and cook the burgers for 4 to 5 minutes on each side until cooked through.

  4. Lay a slice of Cheddar on each burger for the last minute, covering the pan so it melts.

  5. Toast the buns cut side down in a dry pan for 1 minute.

  6. Spread the buns with mayonnaise and layer with lettuce, tomato, burger and bacon. Serve with ketchup and chips.
