Apple Crumble

Ingredients

  • 900g Bramley apples, peeled, cored and sliced
  • 75g caster sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 175g plain flour
  • 100g cold butter, cubed
  • 75g demerara sugar

Method

  1. Heat the oven to 190°C (170°C fan)/gas 5.

  2. Toss the apples with the caster sugar, cinnamon and water and tip into a 1.5 litre baking dish.

  3. Rub the flour and butter together with your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs, then stir in the demerara sugar.

  4. Scatter the crumble evenly over the apples without pressing down.

  5. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes until the top is golden and the apple juices are bubbling. Serve hot with custard.
